I'm a global citizen, living a purposeful life. I'm a techno-geek with a dark sardonic sense of humour. I am a night-hawk. I'm a rebel, an iconoclastic disestablishmentarianist. I'm a control-freak who spurns authority — unless it is mine! I tend not to play well with others, although I like to think of myself as a team-player ;-) so long as we're not playing any sport — 'cept maybe the sport of Kings!
For the past 20+ years I've been an investor and activist in The Hunger Project (www.thp.org), a global strategic organization empowering women and men to end their own hunger, through: 1) Mobilizing people at the grassroots level to be self-reliant; 2) Empowering women as ken change agents; and 3) Forging effective partnerships with local governments. Our highest priority is the empowerment of women. Women bear primary responsibility for family health, education and nutrition – yet, by tradition, culture and law they are denied the means, information and freedom of action to fulfill their responsibility.
However, I've since grown impatient with the progress made on that front to ending world hunger and extreme poverty, especially in light of climate change and rapidly approaching natural limits to exponential population growth, which if left unchecked will likely render any such progress moot. There is presently a perfect storm gathering amidst a myriad of inter-related global issues (including depletion of resources owing to industrial agricultural practices and excessive consumerism with rising per capita eco-impact, reduced biodiversity, deforestation, degradation of air, water, soil, marine habitats, etc.), that is likely to culminate in rising sea levels, droughts, crop failures, energy shortages, leading, in turn, to shortages of food and productive land, causing starvation, civil unrest, mass migrations of people, international conflict and warfare. Somehow, we as a civilization need to address these issues - now! I aspire to make a difference towards averting the collapse of our civilization, if not the extinction of our species.
Complexity is not an excuse for complacency!
I look younger than my years and think/act younger, still. I value integrity, honesty, intelligence, passion, compassion, fair-play, tolerance, humour, adventure, an open mind, a stout heart, ... and a sense of purpose.
